At 28 years old, our founder, Joseph Derochea, has already logged a full decade in site work—experience earned the hard way on hundreds of digs across Southeastern Massachusetts. He started at 18, running shovels and skid-steers for local contractors, soaking up every lesson on soils, safety, and the pressure of schedules.
In 2025, he stepped out on his own and formed Legacy Excavation with one goal: to bring the highest standard of workmanship to every client, every time. Today, he still climbs into the cab on most jobs, backed by a growing crew that shares his commitment to doing the dirt work right the first time.
Family is the engine behind that drive. He and his wife are raising an 18-month-old son, and the business is built to reflect the values they’ll teach him—hard work, commitment, trustworthiness, professionalism, personability, and honesty. Those six words guide hiring, training, and every conversation on-site or at the kitchen table.
Whether we’re installing a Title 5 system, retaining a hillside with block, or patching an asphalt driveway, you’ll see those values in action: clear communication, clean job sites, and workmanship we’re proud to point out to our kids on weekend drives.
That’s the Legacy promise—and the standard we’ll bring to your project.
